A global leader in higher education, Dr. Johnson is the President of Albion College in Michigan. He will be joining us in a webinar conversation centered on community engagement during a pandemic, how his background and engaged scholarship blends with his current presidential responsibilities, what businesses, NPOs, higher ed institutions and cities can do collectively, and what is to come in 2021 and beyond. With time, we'll also get an opportunity to learn how his path from community engagement led to presidency.
He came from Brown University where he served as the Associate Dean of the College for Engaged Scholarship and the Director of the Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service. A sociologist by background and training, he is internationally known as an expert on community engagement and leads the development of Carnegie Foundation Elective Classifications, the Elective Classification for Community Engagement, and a multi-year international Carnegie Community Engagement Classification project.
“Commitment to community service is at the very core of who I am.” He identified himself as a “servant leader,” one who would work to “activate the energy and passion of others” in the work of higher education and community service.
